Welcoming in 2025 Across the Time Zones

Updated: Jan 26

If you’ve never flown on New Year’s Eve, celebrating 35,000 feet in the air isn’t a bad way to ring in the new year.  And in our case - 9 times.

Backing up a bit - after the Gulfport trip, we were in California and Nevada visiting family for the holidays.  Two days of good skiing (for some); nice visiting for all.

Unless you are looking for a wild party, traveling on New Year’s Eve is fun.

The airport was not too crowded and ticket prices drop ever so slightly.

Our plane departed San Francisco at 2pm, just an hour before the new year was to be rung in at our flight’s destination - Amsterdam.  As we were flying on KLM, the Royal Dutch airline, come 3pm SF time/12mn Amsterdam time, the flight attendants counted us down and served champagne.  According to the flight map, we were some up above Nevada...

We personally gave a nod to 2025  an hour later for the UK’s midnight, and as we landed in Amsterdam, it was just turning 2025 in San Francisco.  While I am a fan of disconnecting, the free Wi-Fi on planes these delays helps one to celebrate virtually with earth-bound loved ones.

While we enjoyed plenty of adult beverages on December 31, since January 1, it has been no alcohol.  We have found no-alcohol beers, prosecco's and spirits that we like, and last night I found a recipe for a non-alcoholic Baileys.  Not quite the same, but not a bad substitute.

What else is on tap (no pun intended) for January?

I’ve been in clean up mode on my phone. Digital photos. “Notes.” Old completed reminders  It is particularly gleeful to delete those old Covid tests results.

We’ve been in clean up mode in the house as well - it’s fun to do Apartment Therapy’s January Cure, with each M-F offering a small task to clean some clutter.

They, whoever they are, say that New Year’s resolutions usually last until the second Friday in January.  Not sure we actually phrased any specifically as resolutions, but so far so good.  You can’t change everything at once.  And you don’t have to Go Big or Go Home.

Wellness Round Up

This could probably be broken into two parts: the end of 2024 and the start of 2025.  Yep, you guessed it, the end of 2024 did not always include the healthiest choices….

But now, it’s the new year so the motivation and commitment are high.  Happy to report strong scores on all fronts!

Movement Gym for strength training and walking - both tick!

Stress and Sleep have been good.

Hydration: Some days are better than others.  A minimum of 32 oz/day; most days somewhere between 66-80 oz.

Nutrition: We’ve been focusing on increasing veggies and protein while decreasing sugar intake. We do like our curries! And I can finally eat them again after eating so may in India.

We are also working on prepping food for week on the weekends.

I’d like to drink only two cups of coffee per day, but, in the spirit of not trying to change everything at once, for now I am still permitting myself three cups.

One resolution is to get back into my writing.  There are still tales of India to come!

That’s it for now. Bon Voyage & Bon Appétit!
