Summer to Autumn: Finding the Sweet Spot

Hard to believe summer is on the way out…until you look out the window - sunny one day, rainy the next. My favorite days are the ones where you can sit outside feeling the warmth of the waning summer sun, but also smelling the crisp, autumn air. It’s a sweet spot.

These past few weeks have been about finding a sweet spot in a few different ways.

I’ve been delving back into developing next year’s Seabourn conversations. It’s easy to go down a rabbit hole with various takes on a destination, and I get excited about all the possible angles. I am still working on finding the sweet spot of material for each 40-minute conversation. Right now I have too much material - so it is a question of paring down.

On the other end of the spectrum is my upcoming arrival in India. I have found limited printed material, online forums, etc. about arriving into India and transferring domestically.  However, I did finally find what I need on YouTube!  I found some great videos that literally walk you through the process.  As I will have from 10:30pm-2:30am to clear immigration, collect luggage, pass customs, transfer terminals, re-check baggage (after already traveling for 12 hours), I have been a bit nervous. I now feel much more comfortable - sweet spot achieved.  You can bet I will include a post with tips and tricks but in the meantime, YouTube to the rescue.

One of my other projects has been curating my past blogs (again looking for the sweet spot!) and setting up an thematic archive index. This took me much longer than anticipated, and it is still a work in progress (especially as the program I use changed its whole format). If you see a broken link or anything else that jumps out at you, please let me know so I can repair the post. I do apologize that it has delayed the publishing of this blog post.

I have enjoyed revisiting the posts.  Special Edition: Wisdom from Future Cruise Consultants is a favorite, drawing on the collective know-how of colleagues and friends.  Helpful if you are dreaming of the next holiday or cruise…

Wellness Round Up

Nutrition has been mixed. We have been enjoying some more salmon and fish, but also more sugary and carb-heavy items.  I was also introduced this week to the English Farm Shop breakfast. I was happy with my vegetarian plate (and able to skip lunch).

Some keeper recipes:

Movement.  This is going to come as a shocker: I am voluntarily going to the gym for strength training!!!  I have even been the driving force to get the family to go together. Normally you have to drag me kicking and screaming.

This is about as big a deal as getting me to put my face in water (another intense dislike).

I also now have an adjustable shelf for the keyboard & monitors that converts the desk to a standing desk. It takes some time to build up to standing for long periods of time; but each day I try to add a bit more or be standing for a meeting.

Hydration has been mixed; most days I do get a full pitcher in.

Sleep and stress tend to go hand in hand for me. Definitely have some constant low-level stress and anxiety trying to tie up several loose ends before this big trip.

Not sure I am going to get my weight to where I want it to be before I head to India and Bhutan a week from Monday. I think work and tying up loose ends will take priority, but hopefully this will reduce that stress a bit.

That’s it for now. Bon Voyage & Bon Appétit!
