NY State of Mind

NYC was my home and home base 1997-2005 and again 2009-2012 (?) it holds a special place in my heart, and while I have not had the chance to make a proper visit for several years, I still enjoy my connections there.
Today, that connection is quite literal, as we fly from Washington DC to Buenos Aires connecting through JFK. our 8.5-hour layover shrank to 6.5 due to a delayed first flight. But we’d rather have that buffer than miss a flight. Or I should say we'd rather not have our luggage miss a flight. It’s been ages since I have been through JFK - I appreciate that their artwork includes one of my favorite travel sayings and introduces me to a new one.

For the last several weeks, my connection to NY has been virtual as I began volunteer work as a Leadership Coach for students at City College of NY. This is through an organization called Braven, whose mission is to prepare first generation college students and students of color for strong first jobs out of college. It’s a pretty incredible course the students take, and it is something of an honor, a warm fuzzy and an imposter syndrome experience to help these young adults. Last week we worked on resumes, we are coming up on networking skills next.
I finished my NY travel poster cross stitch the week I started coaching. Thanks, universe, for the synchronicity.
England, like DC, has been that mix of super cold days with a few warm ones sprinkled in. Just enough to keep everyone confused, including the spring blooms.

Wellness Round Up
Sleep - Jet lag has played its hand. We finally have gotten used to the time change and now we’re off again.
Stress - has been a little high. Various projects, deadlines and moving pieces have been swirling around but now seem to be resolving themselves.
Movement - I have been doing what I can with some walking. The stress and cold weather have been challenging, but even a short walk helps clear the head. While it feels like a walk robs time, I am more productive for having taken the walk and it is quality time with Dirk.
Hydration - has been a little on the low side. We have been following one of the Glucose Goddess’s hacks of incorporating 1 Tbl. apple cider vinegar into water. It doesn’t impact hydration, but has helped keep hunger cravings down.
Nutrition - has been pretty positive! Per this week’s Noom lessons, labeling and all-or-nothing thinking are something to be mindful of. With that, here are photos of some airline lounge options….sans labels.
And a fun brunch spot in DC- the Tabard Inn, a historic hotel and restaurant in DuPont Circle area.
Bottom line, the numbers on the scale are still on a downward trend and body fat composition is on the way down, too.
With that, time for a little, very-NY snack from Nathan’s.
Bon Voyage & Bon Appétit!
