I Saw the Sign

It has been a week of transitions, great friends, and lots of laughs.

When we got to Dulles airport, the terminal was well-signed for where to go for ride app pickup but we weren’t sure where we would go once outside.  No need to fret - they got you covered.  I suppose it is miss-able, but it’s a pretty big indicator.

Dulles Airport Uber Pickup
Christina Purcell & Craig Diamond

Before leaving the ship, I had a fun lunch catching up with a guest entertainer with whom I have worked with several times over the years.  When I worked with Craig, his act was a comedy/magic act, and now he also does pure comedy shows.  The pandemic has changed a lot of how’s for many professions, and I am glad to hear Craig  has come out the other side not just surviving, but thriving.

We flew from Chile to DC Tuesday-Wednesday, which now feels like a lifetime ago.

TIP: many flights to the USA leave Santiago late in the evening, and you can’t check in your luggage until four hours before your flight. It’s a good place to do a half day sightseeing tour/airport transfer combo if you are not staying in Santiago for a few days.

Our flight from Washington to England was cancelled, and we were rebooked on the same flight a day earlier.  What was already a quick visit in Maryland became a really quick visit. Packed full, but delightful seeing very dear friends Trisha and Marc.

Having these two flights so close to each other, it is hard not to make comparisons. KLM’s economy comfort seat felt much more comfy than Delta’s comfort plus, but it may have helped to have the empty seat next to me. The chicken was also much easier to identify as chicken on KLM. Hmmm…?

I do get tickled when  my airplane Dutch  is spoken with enough of a good accent for the flight attendant to think I speak fluently.  Good evening, water, coffee with milk, white wine, chicken, please and thank you - get me far.

Wellness Round Up

Nutrition: Some fun this week either trying new foods (such as in the airport in Chile) or introducing Dirk to new foods and restaurants. When we get home, we get back on track.

As we parked the car to go out for Vietnamese dinner, this sign was not as well heeded...

Movement: The best days for steps were our airport days.  Otherwise, just didn’t have the time.

Sleep & Stress: Overall pretty good. Jet lag not too bad as only a  two hour difference from South America to Maryland.

Hydration: Mixed as we were out of a usually routine.

Last Penguin in Chile Airport

As I write this, I am smiling and chuckling over happy memories for the week.  If laughter is the best medicine, I am going to chalk up some wins in the wellness tally this week.

This little guy was on one of the jetway advertising signs when boarding the plane in Chile. Ok, he is the last penguin of the season.

I promise.

That's it for now. Bon Voyage & Bon Appétit!
